Kenya board chief blasts ICC over 2015 WCup

Updated: February 17, 2011, 04:21

LONDON(AP) The head of Kenya's cricket board has criticized the ICC's decision to exclude lower-tier teams from the 2015 World Cup, calling it "scandalous''.

In an interview with Wisden, Cricket Kenya chief executive Tom Sears says plans to leave out ICC Associate nations like Kenya and Ireland are "bloody ridiculous.''

Sears tells the respected cricket magazine: "I've no desire to be diplomatic... Not to let anyone else in is scandalous. It's all about money, power and votes - and that's not good for cricket.''

Kenya became the only non-test playing nation to reach the World Cup semifinals in 2003, while Ireland pulled off a major shock to beat Pakistan in 2007.

Sears' interview is to be published on Friday, the day before the 2011 tournament starts.
